CHRISTMAS SEASON IS HERE!
IT'S TIME TO SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS!!!
Things might not be back to normal around here yet, but we try to keep things as routine as possible for our kids.
One way to do that is to forge ahead with is our annual CHRISTMAS PROJECT.
Our mission is to spread God's Love and Hope as far and wide as we can. What better way to do that than to tell as many children as possible why Jesus came to live among us?
The message stresses that God sent His Son to save each individual child because each child is loved the same.
Each celebration includes The Story and prayer, but lots of other child-engaging activities, too.
Mission children receive an item of need and a new toy. This season, the item of need is intended to be a new pair of sneakers, wrapped and addressed to each child.
Every child will receive a new locally-purchased toy and a traditional Christmas meal of tamales, bread, and ponche.
Candy canes, special treats, and other surprises abound.
And, of course, there will be joyful singing and dancing!
Besides our regular mission locations (La Cuchilla, Santa Fe, Cocales, and Pamamus), our organization tries to answer the call from churches and charity groups around the country.
Last year, we provided gifts and food to an orphanage, at a Sunday School, a senior center, and to migratory workers.
We end each Christmas season driving around struggling neighborhoods distributing any leftover toys and food.
Our Christmas Project is meant to share the Joy of Christ and the Good News with kids and adults less fortunate than us.
But we can't understate the amount of joy it brings us, too.
What About Our Other Programs?
We are in full operation, plus we are still in disaster mode with our Emergency Food Program for folks pushed into poverty by the Covid crisis.
Groceries and supplies are still delivered to families of our program, as well as folks on the streets displaying white flags- a sign that they are in need of food assistance.
At the La Cuchilla feeding program, we suspended Bible classes for the year, but we still hand out "to go" meals twice a week outdoors. We do our best to engage the kids as they arrive and plan special games to keep them focused on Jesus.
In Cocales, the new feeding program provides five meals a week to several dozen children and some seniors. Youth Church services have restarted outdoors, too.
We await word on the start date for the next school year in Pamamus. Hopefully, it will start in January, but possibly with split sessions. Their Christmas celebration might have to wait until they reopen.
Our women's ministry started regular, socially distanced, meetings this month. MOPS provided an online leadership seminar and literature for the new season.
The recent hurricane (Eta) will impact food security in Guatemala for a while. Much of eastern Guatemalan fields were flooded or crushed in slides just before a harvest.
It is logistically difficult for us to visit the area, but please join us in praying for the people and rescuers working to get folks back on their feet.
Our Mission and Goal
Our mission is to spread God's love through His Word, through our words, through our works, and with His help. Our goal is to help people get through acute and chronic crises by introducing (or reminding) them of the Hope and Love Jesus offers.
CHRISTMAS CHEER FOOD BASKETS
Every Christmas season, we distribute food baskets to particularly needy families.
These baskets are usually limited to the neediest families of children in our feeding programs. Last year, we distributed 24 baskets to those folks, and 6 more to a group of senior women.
2020 is not a usual year. We are determined to more than double the amount of food baskets distributed this December.
We hope to expand the number of families in our program, and extend additional baskets to "White Flag" families- people who still suffer due to Covid-related unemployment or illness.
Our baskets will be slightly less festive out of necessity, but they will be more vital to the recipients than ever.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We anticipate added costs caused directly and indirectly by the Covid Crisis, including additional travel related to extending events over several days (to limit gathering sizes).
Every year, we are blessed beyond expectations at Christmas, allowing us to deliver the Good News without worries.
If you can help us financially this season, please
We are a 501(c)3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible!
